Do you want to make a pie crust that is just as good as grandma’s but not so hard to do?

Here it is!

This is probably one of the easiest but tastiest pie crusts I’ve ever encountered. Even my mother who said pie crusts and pies were difficult for her, was able to make this without any problem at all.

You don’t need to roll this crust unless you want to, it can be pressed into position with your hands in just a few minutes.

This recipe will make one 9″ – 10″ pie crust.

Put ⅓ cup water into the freezer to get cold while you prepare the other ingredients.

Start by putting 1 ⅓ cups all purpose flour into a bowl with ½ teaspoon salt.

Take the 9 tablespoons butter or shortening, and cut it into pieces, dropping the butter pieces around the flour mixture. I left the chunks fairly big, since I would be working the butter in with my hands anyway.

You could also use oil in place of the butter, but the texture of the crust may be a bit flakier.

Begin to work the butter into the flour with your fingers.

Add the ⅓ cup ice water only a little at a time. You may not need it all, especially if you are going to roll it out. Then use your hands to work this mixture into a ball. It will be a bit sticky at first:

Keep kneading in with your fingers, and it will form into a smooth ball.

Place the ball into your pie plate and flatten it.

Press the dough until it is evenly distributed across the pie plate, and up the sides.

If you are using this pie shell for a no bake pie, you can bake this crust by itself for 15 minutes at 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

Otherwise, bake it with filling according to your recipe.
