Spiritual warfare was not something I learned about until I was on the mission field as an adult in Japan. The following simple prayers were the first that I said, which led to more and more freedom.

Soul healing is a crucial part of deliverance, so I had to go through a lot of emotional and mental healing before understanding spiritual warfare. See my post on Faith-Based Books for Inner Healing which helped me in my healing journey.

I believe that like me, you will find freedom little by little as you go through these prayers.

You can write the prayers in your own prayer notebook and let Holy Spirit lead you through them during your prayer time.

Intentional Time with God (Psalm 91:1)

It is important we do not forget that God always has the perfect solution for our problems. God knows exactly what will set us free and give us peace. For this reason, setting aside intentional time with the Lord is so vital and essential for spiritual battles. Even if you do not know what to say, sit before Him. Let Him fill you with His Spirit, and with His peace and joy. Do this often and it will change your life. Bring your particular struggle before Him and give it to Him. He knows what is best for you and He already has the best solution for your particular struggle. Psalm 91:1 says that he who dwells in the SECRET PLACE shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. Where is the secret place? It is in our intentional time with God.

Authority

Recognize your authority in Jesus Christ (Matthew 28:18-20). You have spiritual authority if you are a born-again believer in Jesus Christ. In the book of Romans, Paul says we are saved by faith (Romans 3:21-28). If we are born-again and have a relationship with Jesus but keep on doubting our salvation, it is hard to walk in our authority in Jesus! Therefore, we must trust God, believe that the blood of Jesus has cleansed us and set us free, and recognize the authority that Jesus has given us in His name (Luke 10:19). You will need this authority to drive out demons and heal the sick.

Repent and Renounce

Repent for any sins you struggle with. If it is a persistent sin, then it could have roots in your family lineage. Also, repent for all your ancestors for their sins, whatever you can name (we do this to strip away the enemy’s legal rights to attack us). To repent on behalf of your ancestors, you may need to ask forgiveness for sins like stealing, lying, anger, adultery, perversion, fornication, witchcraft, idolatry, lust, profane worship, blood sacrifices, etc.

Prayer: Lord, I repent for ______. I ask for your forgiveness and I ask You to cleanse me and set me free (John 1:9). I also repent for my ancestors going back to Adam and Eve for their sins against You. Particularly I repent for their sins of : ______. Please release me and my descendants from the consequences of these sins. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Break Soul Ties

You may or may not have heard about soul ties. When I learned about ungodly soul ties, my struggles with other people made so much more sense. An ungodly soul tie is a spiritual tie that is formed, and can be with anyone. Ungodly ties may come from an obsession with a childhood crush, a celebrity, or even someone who is jealous or hateful towards you. When you have sex with someone, it forms a tie (and if they are not your spouse, these ties have the potential to damage your future relationships). If you divorce and your spouse has moved on, it’s important to break the marriage tie to move on as well. Say them as many times you need to until you feel release.

Prayer: Lord, I repent for the ungodly soul tie with ______. I take the sword of the Spirit and break the ungodly soul tie between myself and ______. I break the tie from ______ to myself also in Jesus’ name.

Prayer for divorced persons: Lord, I repent for and renounce the covenant I made with ______(my ex spouse). I take the sword of the Spirit and break the covenant and ungodly soul tie between myself and ______. I break the covenant and soul tie from ______ to myself also in Jesus’ name.

It may be helpful to ask God for a spiritual divorce from your ex spouse as well.

Forgive

Intentionally forgive anyone who has hurt you or caused you harm. Remember that forgiveness is a decision you make (NOT a feeling). It is hard sometimes, but losing God’s forgiveness for yourself is not worth it. God knows what hardship and unkindness you may have been through. Forgive that person and let them go. God can help you with the negative emotions.

Prayer: God, I may not feel like forgiving ______. However, You told us in Your Word to forgive so that You can forgive us. I give this person to You. I give the pain of their behavior to You. I forgive them, even though it hurts. I ask You to heal my heart and give me peace. Thank You, Jesus.

You can also ask God to release you from bitterness and to take the root of bitterness from your heart.

Binding and Loosing

There are different prayers for binding and loosing. The prayers that have been effective for me are below:

With my authority in Christ Jesus, and by the power of His blood, I bind every spirit not of the Holy Spirit that is tormenting me in Jesus’ name. I bind the spirit of: (name anything that you struggle with such as anger, fear, pride, envy, etc) in Jesus’ name. I plead the blood of Jesus against every spirit. I loose the spirits of: (name the opposite spirits such as peace, humility, generosity, etc) in my life in Jesus’ name.

Self Deliverance

This is simply commanding the spirits tormenting you to leave, in Jesus’ name. Shauna Tooley has a free handout on self-deliverance (which is very helpful), her website is shaunatooley.com.

Prayers for Unsaved Loved Ones

Here’s a prayer for unsaved loved ones I recommend. It covers many things our loved ones might need: Unsaved Loved One Prayer by Multiplying Freedom

Take your loved ones’ salvation by FAITH and believe that it has already been done. Say aloud: “My loved one is born again and belongs to Jesus. I take it by faith in Jesus’ name.”

If you have unsaved loved ones, don’t give up praying for them!! It is your right to claim their salvation by faith. See this article and prayer.

Again, healing and deliverance is often a process, not one simple session. Don’t give up the fight!
