Health and Nutrition

Ginger Tea – Ginger Tea has powerful antimicrobial properties according to popular belief. When I was in the Philippines, a woman in the village also had a sore throat, so she chewed on a piece of raw ginger, allowing the liquid to go down to her throat. She said her sore throat went away quickly. You can make ginger tea by chopping the ginger into large chunks, boiling it, and steeping it for 20-30 minutes or even longer.

Gallbladder Issues – After a painful gallbladder attack, fear of surgery led me to try a gallbladder cleanse. Every year since then I’ve done a cleanse, and have had no more attacks. Also, my weight has gone down since it seems my higher weight was connected to liver health. Since doing a cleanse, my liver can process fat much better. This post has a recipe for a Gallbladder Cleanse an Alternative to Surgery.

Cavities – Although contrary to popular belief, it is possible to remineralize teeth. This mineral toothpaste from georganic promotes natural remineralization. Also, Mighty Nest sells natural and zero waste dental lace.

Butter oil and cod liver oil supplements can strengthen teeth as well.

Here is another great natural remineralizing toothpaste for sensitive teeth.

Also, see this wonderful blog post about healing cavities naturally (The author recommends taking cod liver oil and butter oil capsules to heal cavities naturally). Just be aware of the fat content in these oils.

Colds and Flu

Mighty Nest sells this Natural Allergy Support Liquid – which supports a healthy histamine response. There are a few different liquid herbal remedies to choose from on their site.

If you are looking for a natural cough lozenges, here are a couple of natural choices:

Elderberry Syrup + Honey – Elderberry is high in vitamin C and antioxidants, and has been used in the past to treat the flu.

On top of this, elderberry may also be good for the heart.

Elderberry is reputed to work like a cough medicine. Mighty Nest sells Elderberry syrup for kids which does not contain added sugars, only honey.

All Good Goop Healing Balm is a versatile balm that can be used for dry skin, scrapes, cuts, and bug bites.

Made without synthetic ingredients, this natural balm includes olive oil, lavender, and Calendula, among other ingredients. In winter salve is especially good for dry skin.
Beef tallow is also said to be good for skin disorders.

This Aromatic Chest Rub is a natural alternative to the mainstream soothing chest rub with the same cooling effect.

This chest rub includes organic eucalyptus, ginger, peppermint and tangerine oils, just to name a few.

We all might need a bandage for a cut or scrape at one time or another.

These natural bamboo bandages are compostable, so there is no guilt when you throw them outside in the compost pile. (Unlike the rubber alternatives).

Essential Oils

Here are some other oils from Healing Natural Oils (amoils.com). If you are interested in oils, you can read the reviews by visiting the links:

Scars – This oil is supposed to work great, according to reviews. For some deeper scars, I have also used a derma roller and tamanu oil. Tamanu oil is a Polynesian oil that is used for burns as well and is incredible for the skin.

Skin Tags and Moles – If you would rather not go to the dermatologist to get a mole or skin tag removed (or if you cannot afford it), many people have used oil like these to remove them.

Nail Fungus – Healing Natural Oils has a formula specifically for nail fungus which may work even better than the tea tree oil alone.

Some other oils which have great reviews are those for: Varicose Veins * Psoriasis * Fissures * Cracked Heels * Hemorrhoids * Headaches * Warts * Wrinkles * Arthritis * and more.

Skin Problems and Products

Tea Tree Oil – I witnessed this oil as an excellent remedy for nail fungus but also for a natural cleanser in your home.

In Australia, tea tree oil was diluted in water with a little white vinegar, which I used to clean counter tops, sinks and more. It can also be added to soap, shampoo and many other things.

As I suffer from sensitive skin especially on my face, this Aloe Gel is excellent for me. Most of the time I am unable to use “normal” face lotions because of the sensitivity of my facial skin.

This Aloe Vera made with organic, and fair trade ingredients, so there is no worry about the added chemicals of other brands.

Bug Repellent

Here are some natural bug repellents which have great reviews.

While in Japan, keeping the incense nearby me worked wonders. The mosquitoes did not bite me despite being attracted to me like a magnet.

In case you get bitten or stung, here are natural bug bite relief:

Natural Deodorant

I remember when an aluminum free deodorant was very difficult to come by, so I made my own. Nowadays there are many good choices.

Here are some deodorants which contain coconut oil and baking soda (which works excellent for me) and it is plastic free.

All Good Gel Deodorant stick is free from aluminum, chemicals, and baking soda for those with sensitivities.

Natural Sunscreen

Here are two mineral 30 spf sunscreens from THINKSPORT and All Good. Both contain non particulate zinc oxide and are reef safe. The nice thing about mineral sunscreens is that there are no cancer causing chemicals in the ingredients (which I would think defeats the purpose of sunscreen anyway).

Shampoo Bars

I really wanted to find a natural shampoo that also would not hurt the environment.

Mighty Nest has many natural Shampoo Bars to choose from, here are just a few:

Natural Soap

Of course, most of the bar soaps that are sold today contain lots of chemicals. Here are a few more natural alternatives including olive oil soap from the Jerusalem Gift Shop and this Adzuki Bean Soap from Mighty Nest:
