Okra is one of my favorite vegetables! My southern grandmother used to put okra in her stews. It goes well in a seafood gumbo, jambalaya, or any vegetable stew. You may be most familiar with deep-fried okra with delicious buttermilk breading.

Although breaded and deep fried okra has a wonderful flavor and crunch, I was not interested in the long timeframe and the heating (and splattering) of oil.

When you want your okra as quick as possible, you find an easier way!

Also, I am the only one in my family that wanted the okra, so it was no use making a large batch.

It is still possible to use breading for the okra to cook in the air fryer, but I found simple air fryer okra just as delicious.

Combatting Slime:

If you are intimidated by slime, keep in mind that slime from okra is worst when it is cooked in water. I generally do not have much trouble with the slime when frying in the air fryer, maybe because the air is able to get in and circulate.

Simply rinse and cut the okra.

In the air fryer, put the okra rounds in an even layer, trying not to overcrowd it.

I usually wait until after cooking to add salt and pepper. However, you could add salt and pepper and other spices before cooking as well.

If the okra pods get too hard before I am able to use them, I check to see if the seeds are still soft. I will toss the seeds in olive oil and fry them on the stove, as the taste is still very good.

The greens from the okra plant are also very good, whether in a salad or a stew.

How to Cook it:

To cook the okra, preheat your air fryer to 400 degrees farenheit.

Coat the okra in the olive oil.

Cook the okra in the air fryer for about ten minutes, opening at five minutes to toss.

Enjoy!
