A Vision of a Loveseat

One morning, I asked the Lord what he wanted me to “do.”

He immediately gave me a vision of a loveseat. Not a full couch, but a small one with only enough room for two.

Immediately it became clear He asked me to sit with Him.

Sit with Him? I thought. I couldn’t believe He didn’t want me to do something.

“Are you sure?” I asked.

Always Working

For a while after that I felt a little embarrassed. Performance, or “being busy” always proved challenging for me. It seemed useless to sit down and rest, like my worth and value lay only in “doing.” The problem with performance, is that rarely it leads anywhere fruitful. For me, running around and “doing” never got me anywhere.

The picture of the loveseat that I got from the Lord, gave me a whole new perspective.

The Bible says in Luke 12:21 that it is foolish to store up riches on this earth without knowing God. What is the point of riches on earth if we die without salvation through a relationship with God?

If you are like me, you might also have trouble laying down your projects, or thinking of your self-worth in terms of “who you are” and not “what you do.”

Because of this vision of a loveseat, I learned that putting aside time each day to pray, even if you don’t know what to say to God, is more important than any project you can do – even if you are trying to do things for Him.

Learning to Rest

Recently, I told God I didn’t know how to pray about certain dreams and visions that I have for the future. I would start to pray something like: “Lord how do I make this work?” And unfortunately, it was rare that anything fruitful would happen.

Recently I caught some criticism over something that I didn’t know how to change. I had been praying the above prayer, asking God how to accomplish my own expectations. Finally I said: “Lord, if I’m supposed to change this, but I don’t know how, then I guess you have to do it.”

Suddenly I understood the missing key to my efforts, was in surrendering those efforts to God. If God does it, then He will get the glory!

We must learn to accomplish from a place of rest. But what does that mean?

The appointed times in the Word of God include: times for sowing, for reaping a harvest, and also for resting. If we always work, then we will never rest – but rest is commanded in the Bible, for people, for the land, for animals. Also, we must learn that we cannot accomplish anything without God’s help. We must learn to rest in Him, find our peace in Him, then even when we sow (and work) that will know we are in God’s will and produce fruit.

Most importantly, salvation lies in our relationship with Jesus. How can we have a relationship with Him if we never rest and spend time with Him?

We can accomplish much more if we take time to rest and spend time with Jesus, rather than running constantly and trying to accomplish tasks in our own strength.

God bless you!
